Friends of the NICU

Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is renowned for providing extraordinary care to our tiniest patients and their families during critical and often extended hospital stays.

This fund provides support for parent needs (car seats for babies of parents who can’t afford them), selected needed NICU equipment or furnishings, and supplies for parent activities. The Friends of the NICU Fund also makes the NICU Parent Liaison program possible.

Your contribution to the NICU Friends of BWH will help us support the families of Newborn Intensive Care Unit babies during a challenging time by supporting the purchase of supplies that make our NICU facility a wonderful resource and a comforting space for families. The fund also provides educational materials that cover family planning, pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum and newborn care.

NICU Building Fund

For the tiny babies in the BWH Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), beating the odds is a matter of life and death. Hundreds of families each year depend on us to give their preemies and ill infants a fighting chance in one of the best NICUs in the country. Today there are tremendous opportunities to advance critical research and to help a redesigned NICU with the most advantageous space, equipment, and environmental controls.

Most infants treated by the internationally renowned neonatologists in our NICU are born prematurely and suffer from a variety of serious and often life-threatening illnesses, including inadequately developed organs, infection, respiratory failure, congenital malformations and neurological and metabolic disorders. We understand that our NICU patients and families need a more family-centered setting—one that is more spacious, with private rooms to reduce the chance of infection and favorable environmental conditions so that premature and sick infants can best heal and develop.

The proposed renovations are the next step in the evolution of newborn medicine. Your donation will give our youngest, most vulnerable patients better chances to beat the odds, go home safely with their families, and live longer, healthier lives.
